Was inspired by a veteran commercial photographer who shot the real, life-sized version of this car some time back.
Have owned the remote-controlled model of this car from some time back. Seeing how the seasoned photographer work with spaces & equipment befitting his level, I wanted to challenge myself to produce something similar, albeit scaled down. Instead of using ridiculous studio spaces and burst my budget, I worked within my means – and used the studio I was co-sharing to execute this plan.
Had Savage’s White Seamless Background paper rolled down. Set up a make-shift truss with a 8×8 White V-flat laid on two Auto-poles, held up by four light stands fixed with standard Super Clamps. Another two C-stands, one on each side, helped to further support the sides that seemed to droop down a tad.
Four Profoto Lights were shone onto the wide-spread surface with two sets of Profoto Acute1200. This was done to give an even, well-spread illumination of the area. A few more lights were positioned to enhance certain part with highlights or to fill/lighten the shadow areas, to prevent it from becoming too black.
Further works were done in Photoshop to remove gunk and dust from the ancient toy, and to tweak the lighting to further enhance it aesthetically.
